ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Eric Knodel’s second period goal held up as the game winner as the Cincinnati Cyclones nipped the Alaska Aces 2-1 Wednesday at the Sullivan Arena.

The game was Cincinnati’s first in Alaska since the 2014 Kelly Cup finals. The two teams played one game last season, in Cincinnati, with the Cyclones taking a 3-1 win.

Seth Ambroz gave the Cyclones a 1-0 first period lead with his ninth goal of the season at 9:52. Helpers to Martin Lefebvre and Nick Huard.

Shots after one favored Cincinnati 11-9.

The game winner from Knodel came at 11:51 of the second period. He took a pass from Shane Walsh and drilled a low, hard slapper stick-side on Aces goaltender Kevin Carr from above the right circle. Jordan Sims also assisted on the Knodel goal.

Shots after two: Cincinnati 21, Alaska 19.

The Aces made a game of it, but not until late in the third period when Carr was pulled fir an extra attacker. Charlie Sampair whacked the puck through a crowd in front of the net, through goaltender Michael Houser and into the net. Tyler Shattock and Tim Coffman assisted for Alaska. Despite the late push, Cincinnati was able to hold off the Aces and capture their 33rd win of the season.

Final shots were 29-28 Cincy.

Both Carr and Houser finished with 27 saves. Both teams were 0-4 on the power play.

The Aces and Cyclones will play again Friday and Saturday nights at the Sullivan Arena.
