The Alaska Aces suspended NHL-contracted forwards, Scott Gomez, Brandon Dubinsky, Joey Crabb, and Nate Thompson and loaned defenseman Corey Syvret to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League as part of a transaction-filled Tuesday, Aces Head Coach Rob Murray announced.  The forwards will return to their NHL teams with the season expected to begin next week. Dubinsky, Crabb, and Thompson joined the Aces in training camp and spent the first half of the ECHL season with the team.  Gomez signed with the club in early November, and debuted with the Aces 12 games into the season. With the NHL lockout ending on Sunday, the players will now return to their NHL teams. Crabb, who led the Aces in scoring during his time with the club, will join the Washington Capitals after signing there in the off-season.  He finished his Aces campaign with 38 points (17g, 21a) in 35 games.  Thompson registered 21 points (7g, 14a) in 24 games and will return to the Tampa Bay Lightning.  Dubinsky played in 17 games totaling 16 points (9g, 7a) and will make his debut with the Columbus Blue Jackets this season, following an off-season trade. Gomez, who was in his second stint with the Aces after playing for Alaska during the 2004-2005 lockout, had 13 points (6g, 7a) in 11 games. He returns to the NHL as a member of the Montreal Canadiens.  All four players are from Anchorage, and decided to come home to play after the lockout cancelled the beginning of the NHL season.

Syvret, 23, is in his first season with the Aces and third pro season.  He has 18 points (g, 17a) in 32 games this year with Alaska.  His 17 assists are tied for sixth by ECHL defensemen.  They are also tied for the most by an Aces defenseman with Kane Lafranchise, who is currently loaned to the AHL’s Oklahoma City Barons.  Syvret is tied for 18th in overall scoring by a defenseman. The former 2007 sixth round draft pick from the Florida Panthers played four AHL games with the Rochester Americans as an amateur in 2009-2010. He also spent three games with the Portland Pirates last year.  In seven AHL games, he has one assist and four penalty minutes.

The Aces also announced that they have suspended veteran forward, Matt Robinson.  Robinson had one goal and four assists in 17 games this year for Alaska.
