STEELHEADS BLANK ACES 4-0
Tyler Beskorowany made 29 saves for his first shutout of the season and the Idaho Steelheads rode a three-goal first period to a 4-0 win over the Alaska Aces on Wednesday night from the CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho. The Aces lost consecutive games for just the third time this season, and fell to 18-8 on the season. The Steelheads earned points for the seventh straight game and took a one point lead over the Aces for the top spot in the Western Conference and Mountain Division. The Steelheads came out and dominated the opening period, registering three goals and the first 14 shots on goal. After Gerald Coleman kept the Aces in the game with a barrage of saves in the opening minutes, Idaho finally broke through. Ben Ondrus scored his first of the season on a spin-around shot from the bottom of the left circle at 8:57. 54 seconds later Austin Smith made it 2-0 when he poked home a loose puck in the crease following a save by Coleman who lost sight of the rebound behind him. Justin dowling then made it 3-0 with a highlight reel goal maneuvering past the Aces defense and burying a shot into the top left corner of the net. The Steelheads outshot the Aces 20-5 in the first period.
Idaho added to their lead in the second period. David de Kastrozza scored from the high slot at 1:49 to make it 4-0 Steelheads. The Aces outshot the Steelheads14-8 in the period, but could not beat Tyler Beskorowany and trailed 4-0 heading into the third period.
Neither team scored and Beskorowany made ten saves in the final period to complete this first shutout of the season.
Gerald Coleman (5-2) took the loss, making 28 saves on 29 shots. Tyler Beskorowany (7-5-1) made 29 saves on 29 shots, picking up the win. The Aces went 0-4 on the power play and the Steelheads were 0-0. Alaska was outshot by Idaho 32-29 in the game.
