ROLLHEISER, GRIZZLIES EDGE ACES 2-1

Dec 10th, 2012

Grant Rollheiser made 28 saves on 29 shots to help the Utah Grizzlies edge the Alaska Aces 2-1 on Monday night from Sullivan Arena.  The teams split a four-game series over six nights in Anchorage.  Alaska fell to 18-7 on the year, and 9-3 at home.  The Aces now hit the road for the remainder of the week.  They visit the Idaho Steelheads on Wednesday, before travelling to once again face the Grizzlies on Friday and Saturday.   All Aces games can be heard on NewsTalk 103.7FM and 750AM KFQD.  For more information, please contact the Aces office at 907.258.ACES, or visit them on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey.

The teams played a scoreless opening period with the Grizzlies outshooting the Aces 8-7.

The Grizzlies outshot the Aces 14-7 in the second frame and opened the scoring with the only goal of the first two periods.  Josh Burrows scored from the left point on a wrist shot through a screen at 6:09 to give Utah a 1-0 lead.  Later in the period Alaska’s Joey Crabb and Burrows engaged in a fight, as the teams continued to display their bad blood throughout the game.

Utah extended their lead to 2-0 early in the third when Brad Mills scored a rebound power play goal.  The Aces finally solved Rollheiser at 14:11 of the period, and pulled within one when Joey Crabb converted a rebound.  However, Rollheiser stopped 14 of Alaska’s 15 third period shots and kept the Aces at bay for the Utah victory.

Mark Guggenberger (12-5) took the loss, making 26 saves on 28 shots.  Grant Rollheiser (5-3-1) made 28 saves on 29 shots, picking up the win. The Aces went 0-4 on the power play and the Grizzlies were 1-5.  Alaska outshot Utah 29-28 in the game.
