ACES BLOW BY THUNDER 6-2

Nov 28th, 2012

Alaska Aces forward Nate Thompson scored his first of two goals on the opening shift Wednesday night and the Aces never looked back, racing on for a 6-2 win over the Stockton Thunder in Alaska’s much-anticipated return to the Stockton Arena.  Alaska won for the ninth time in ten games, and improved their record to 14-5 on the season, taking over the ECHL’s top winning percentage.  The Aces finish their road trip with a Friday night trip to Bakersfield and Saturday night trip to Ontario.  Alaska then returns home on Friday, Dec. 5th to host the Utah Grizzlies.  All Aces games can be heard on NewsTalk 103.7FM and 750AM KFQD.  For more information, please contact the Aces office at 907.258.ACES, or visit them on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey.

After slow starts in Stockton earlier in the month, Alaska wasted no time this time around.  On the game’s opening shift, Nate Thompson scored 15 seconds into the game to give the Aces an early 1-0 lead.  Alaska then made it 2-0 when Alexandre Imbeault redirected a shot from the point from the low slot at 9:14.  Stockton had a great chance to get on the board on a goal mouth scramble, but Gerald Coleman made a spectacular glove save to rob Gabriel Levesque less than a minute after Imbeault’s goal.  The Aces outshot the Thunder 10-7 in the period.

The Aces continued to hold the lead in the second period, and added to their advantage at 4:46.  Tommy Mele scored from the slot to make it 3-0 Alaska.  Just over a minute later, the Thunder got on the board when Ryan Constant tallied from the left circle at 6:03.  Alaska outshot Stockton 14-8 in the period and took a 3-1 lead into the final period.

Alaska added three goals in the third period to put away the Thunder.  Garry Nunn scored ona  breakaway at 2:22.  Bobby Hughes scored his first of the year at 10:57, and Thompson got his second of the game at 17:36 to blow the game open.  Phil Mangan scored late for the Thunder, who lost for just the second time at home this season.

Gerald Coleman (2-0) earned the win making 24 saves on 26 shots.  Tyler Bunz (8-4-1) made 27 saves on 33 shots, suffering the loss. The Aces went 0-3 on the power play and the Thunder did not have a power play in the game.  Alaska outshot Stockton 33-26 in the game.
