NHLers DUBINSKY, CRABB, THOMPSON TO PLAY FOR ACES DURING LOCKOUT
NHL Forwards and local Anchorage products Brandon Dubinsky, Joey Crabb, and Nate Thompson have all declared that they will play for the Alaska Aces during the NHL lockout, the club announced on Monday morning. The three forwards have taken part in Aces training camp, and have decided to remain with the team once camp ends and the regular season begins on Friday. Fans will have their first opportunity to watch the NHL players in game-action on Monday night as Dubinsky and Crabb will be in the lineup when the Aces open their two-game pre-season schedule against the Las Vegas Wranglers at Sullivan Arena. Tickets are on sale and are just $15 each. They are available at the Aces office at 15th Ave. & Gambell, Fred Meyer locations, www.ticketmaster.com and at the Sullivan Arena box office. Dubinsky, Crabb, and Thompson have played in more than 800 NHL games combined and are returning to play in their hometown of Anchorage for the first time as professionals. Monday’s announcement marks the first time since 2005 that a current NHL player will suit up for the Aces. In the 2004-2005 season then-New Jersey Devils forward, Scott Gomez joined the Aces and earned the ECHL’s MVP Award with an 86 point performance (13g, 73a) in 61 games. Dubinsky is currently under contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and is just two seasons removed from leading the New York Rangers in goals, assists, and points in the 2010-2011 campaign. Crabb signed with the Washington Capitals in the off-season after posting NHL career highs in games, goals, assists, points, and penalty minutes last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Thompson has played exclusively in the NHL since 2008, and has spent the last three seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning. This past summer he served as an alternate captain with Team USA in the 2012 World Cup.
The two-time defending Brabham Cup Champion Aces are in their final week of training camp and will host Las Vegas on Monday and Tuesday night at 7:15pm. Alaska will then travel to visit the Colorado Eagles on Friday and Saturday night in the opening weekend of the regular season. Dubinsky, Crabb, Thompson and the Aces will return to Alaska on Friday, October 19 when they host the Utah Grizzlies in the regular season home opener. Tickets for all Aces games are on sale now. Season ticket and corporate packages are also currently available through the Aces office.
Monday and Tuesday’s pre-season games are part of the Aces “Paint the Rink Pink” event, benefitting the local fight against breast cancer. Funds from the two-day event will go to benefit Breast Cancer Focus Inc. and the American Cancer Society. 100% of the money raised will stay local in Alaska. Tickets for both games are just $15 for any seat in the arena.
In additional roster moves over the weekend, the Aces announced that they have received two players back from AHL training camp. Defenseman Corey Syvret was returned from Toronto Marlies camp, and Anchorage product, William Wrenn was returned from Worcester Sharks camp. Both are expected to be in the lineup on Monday,
