The Aces struck first when Tommy Mele redirected a Danny Markowitz shot at the left side of the net at 6:14 of the first period. On the ensuing shift Las Vegas captain Mike Madill was given a game misconduct and match penalty for an illegal check to the head of Aces forward Tim Hall, who left the game and did not return. The Aces could not capitalize on the major power play, and Las Vegas tied the game late in the period. Scott Campbell redirected a puck from the top of the crease that trickled through the legs of Mark Guggenberger and barely across the goal line to tie the score at 17:50. The Wranglers outshot the Aces 10-7 in the period.
Las Vegas then took their first lead in the opening minute of the second period. Sean Wiles collected a loose puck just outside the crease and buried a rebound at :40 to make it 2-1 Wranglers. The lead was shortlived as Alaska responded on a power play less than two minutes later. Matt Robinson scored on a power from the bottom of the left circle at 2:38 off a pass from Brandon Dubinsky. The Aces eventually reclaimed the lead on another power play at 13:10. Zach Harrison found Markowitz camped at the right side of the net and fed him there for the go-ahead goal. Both teams had 8 shots in the second period.
The Aces held off the Wranglers in the third period, as Guggenberger made 10 saves on as many shots to secure the 3-2 win. Guggenberger (1-0) earned the win making 26 saves on 28 shots while Joe Fallon (0-2) suffered the loss, making 17 saves on 20 shots. The Aces went 2-7 on the power play and the Wranglers went 0-6. Las Vegas outshot Alaska 28-20 in the game.
