FALLON, FIRST PERIOD LEAD WRANGLERS PAST ACES 3-0
Joe Fallon made 23 saves for his first shutout of the postseason, and the Las Vegas Wranglers rode a fast start to a 3-0 win in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals at the Orleans Arena on Friday night. The best-of-seven series is now tied 1-1. The series now shifts back to Anchorage for the next four games. Game 3 is Sunday, Game 4 is Tuesday, and Game 5 is Wednesday. All three games begin at 7:15pm and tickets are on sale now for Games 3 & 4. Game 5 tickets will be available starting Saturday at noon. The Wranglers came storming out of the gates to open up the game with a barrage of early chances. Josh Lunden opened the period with his third goal of the postseason on a rebound at 1:28. Las Vegas then made it 2-0 when rookie Scott Campbell scored his first of the frame at 4:06. Alaska’s coach, Rob Murray called a timeout following the goal, trying to settle down his club. The rest of the period was more evenly played, but Vegas added another late goal when Campbell notched his second at 19:18, giving Las Vegas a 3-0 lead at first intermission. The Wranglers outshot the Aces 15-11.
Gerald Coleman was replaced by James Reid to start the second period and the Aces changed up two of their lines, trying to spark the club. Alaska outshot Las Vegas 10-6 in the middle period, but neither team scored. The Aces had a two-man advantage for 69 seconds, but could not get on the board. Kane Lafranchise hit a cross bar and Wes Goldie was robbed on the doorstep in the two best Alaska chances on the power play.
The Wranglers outshot the Aces 7-2 in an uneventful third period and held on for the 3-0 win to even the series.
Gerald Coleman (5-2) suffered the loss, making 12 saves on 15 shots in one period of work. Joe Fallon (3-1) earned the win, making 23 saves on 23 shots. Reid made 13 saves on 13 shots in two periods of relief action, and did not figure into the decision. The Aces went 0-3 on the power play, while the Wranglers went 0-2. The Aces were outshot by the Wranglers 28-23 in the game.
