COLEMAN, ACES BLANK THUNDER 4-0 TO RECLAIM SERIES LEAD
Gerald Coleman made 22 saves on as many shots and the Alaska Aces erupted for three goals in the third period en route to a 4-0 win over the Stockton Thunder on Wednesday night at Stockton Arena. The Aces took a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference Semifinals. The series remains in California for Games 4 and 5 on Friday and Saturday night at Stockton Arena at 6:30pm AKT. The Aces broke through with the first opening period goal of the series as well as their first power play strike of the post-season. Ryan Cruthers gloved a puck down to himself and then slipped a shot between Olivier Roy and the left post at 11:37 to open the scoring. The Aces were outshot 13-9 in the first period, but took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.
The Aces outshot the Thunder 31-9 the rest of the game and, after a scoreless second period, eventually pulled away for the lopsided victory. The Aces broke the game open early in the third period with a pair of goals 19 seconds apart. Wes Goldie make it 2-0 with a goal from the edge of the slot at 1:06, Nick Mazzolini then redirected a Bryan Miller shot past Roy at 1:25 to quickly make it 3-0. Later in the frame Jordan Kremyr capped the scoring, outworking Stockton defenseman Rob Kwiet and moving around Roy to make it 4-0 Aces at 14:42.
Gerald Coleman (2-1) earned the win, making 22 saves on 22 shots. Olivier Roy (4-2) suffered the loss, making 36 saves on 40 shots. The Aces went 1-6 on the power play, while the Thunder went 0-2. The Aces outshot the Thunder 40-22 in the game.
