OLSON RECALLED TO BRIDGEPORT
Defenseman Benn Olson has been recalled to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League, Aces Head Coach Rob Murray announced on Sunday. Olson appeared in 11 games with the Aces after being assigned to Alaska in mid-January. The Aces now return home to begin a six-game home stand. Alaska begins a three-game series with the Bakersfield Condors on Friday. Tickets are on sale now. Olson, 24, has spent most of this season in Bridgeport where he appeared in 17 games. In 11 games with Alaska the 6’4”, 220 lbs. physical blue liner had 46 penalty minutes and was a -2. With Bridgeport this season he has one goal and 74 penalty minutes. Last year Olson spent the majority of the season with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. He spent 43 games with the Cyclones and registered one goal, three assists, and 153 penalty minutes. He earned two call ups to the AHL. His first call up was for a single game with the Milwaukee Admirals, before a second call up led to him finishing the season playing 17 games with the Sound Tigers. He turned pro in the 2008-2009 season with the AHL’s Albany River Rats. He played 36 games, and registered four assists and 140 PIM. He also played five games that season for the ECHL’s Florida Everblades. He added 50 games with the Everblades the following season, while spending nine in Albany. In his pro career, Olson has appeared in 189 games – 109 in the ECHL and 80 in the AHL. In those games, he has a combined 21 points (2g, 19a) and 694 PIM. Prior to turning pro, the Port McNeil, BC native played four seasons in the WHL with the Kamloops Blazers and Seattle Thunderbirds. He totaled 29 points (3g, 26a) ant 746 PIM in 244 junior games.
