ACES TRAINING CAMP OPENS TODAY

ACES TRAINING CAMP OPENS TODAY

Sep 30th, 2011

The Kelly Cup Champion Alaska Aces have added five players to their pre-season roster, and will begin their 2011 Training Camp with their first team practice at 10:00am on Friday morning at the Ben Boeke Ice Rink.  The five players signed to try-out offers join 16 players in Alaska, and five in the AHL for a 26-man training camp roster for the Aces.  The two-week camp will last through October 13 before the Aces regular season opens on Friday, October 14.  All Aces practices during Training Camp will begin at 10:00am, and will be held at either Ben Boeke Ice Rink or at the Sullivan Arena.  All practices are open to both the media and the general public.  For more information on all Aces related news, please contact the Aces office at 907.258.ACES, or visit them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey

Forwards Jon Higgins, Jordan Kremyr, and Philip Ischi, along with goaltender Wylie Rogers were all extended professional tryout offers.  Rookie forward Kevin Petovello was given an amateur tryout offer to round out the roster.  Higgins is a second-year pro, who spent 11 games with Alaska last year, and also played with Cincinnati of the ECHL, and Knoxville of the SPHL.  Kremyr is a rookie out of Providence College, who dressed in one game for the Aces last season.  Ischi is a native of Kenai, AK who spent training camp last year with the Aces, and appeared in three games at Sullivan Arena for the visiting Las Vegas Wranglers.  Rogers is a former University of Alaska – Fairbanks goaltender who has experience in the ECHL, Central Hockey League, and played in Holland last season.  Petovello is also a former Nanook who is entering his first season of pro hockey this year after completing his collegiate career last season as the UAF captain.  The five players in the AHL are forwards Chris Langkow, Ethan Cox, and Chris Bruton, along with goaltender Andrew Hayes in Peoria, and forward Matt Ambroz in Syracuse.

Including the five players attending AHL camp, the Aces have 16 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 3 goaltenders.  Of the 26 players, 21 have experience playing for the Aces, including 20 from last year’s regular season and playoff roster combined.  The five newcomers are Bruton, Hayes, Rogers, Petovello, and forward, Patrick Schafer.

The Aces 14-day Training Camp is highlighted by two exhibition games against their new ECHL Conference rival, the Colorado Eagle on Tuesday, October 4 and Wednesday, October 5.  Both games will begin at 7:15pm at the Sullivan Arena, and are part of the team’s “Paint the Rink Pink” fundraising event to help the local fight against cancer.  Tickets are currently on sale for the pre-season games at the Aces office, the Sullivan Arena box office, and all Fred Meyer locations.  For more information on all Aces related news, please contact the Aces office at 907.258.ACES, or visit them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey.  The complete 2011 Alaska Aces training camp roster is listed below.
