ACES SIGN HIGGINS, LAFRANCHISE
The Alaska Aces have signed forward, Jon Higgins to a standard player contract, and defenseman, Kane Lafranchise to an Amateur Try-out Agreement (ATO), Head Coach Brent Thompson announced on Wednesday. The two rookies will both make their team debut Wednesday evening in Victoria as they Aces open up a three-game set with the Salmon Kings. Higgins, 24, is in the middle of his first pro season, having played parts of this season in the ECHL and the SPHL. The 6’1”, 190 lbs. forward played collegiately the last four seasons at the University of Vermont. This season, he has played in three games for the Cincinnati Cyclones, notching one goal and one assist. In 16 games with the Knoxville Ice Bears of the SPHL, the Stratham, NH native had nine points (4g, 5a).
Lafranchise, 22, joins the Aces for his pro debut. He played the last three seasons for the University of Alaska – Anchorage. With the Seawolves, he played in 97 career games. Lafranchise is 6’1”, 195 lbs. from Edmonton, Alberta. In another roster move, Alaska placed forward Ethan cox on the 3-day IR.
The Aces are in Victoria to begin a three-game series on Wednesday night with the rival Victoria Salmon Kings. They will return home to host the Stockton Thunder for three games on Feb. 11th, 12th, and 13th. Tickets for all three games are on sale.
