ACES WHIP THUNDER, FACE STOCKTON AGAIN MONDAY IN PLAYOFF OPENER

Apr 3rd, 2010

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Power play goals by Jarrett Konkle (pictured) and Bryan Miller broke open Saturday's game in front of a sell-out crowd of 6,399 as Alaska cruised to a 4-1 victory over Stockton at Sullivan Arena.

The Aces completed their regular season with a 36-28-8 record, including a 10-2-3 mark over its last 15 games overall and a 13-1-3 run in its last 17 played on home ice.  Alaska plays host to the Thunder (33-29-10) Monday and Tuesday night in the first two games of a best-of-five series at the Menard Sports Center in Wasilla.  Both games start at 7:30 p.m., with bus transportation from Sullivan Arena available for just $5 (round trip) at 5:30 p.m.  The series shifts to Stockton Arena next Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m. AT for Games Three and Four (if necessary).  If the series is tied 2-2, the teams would play in Stockton Monday, April 12, at 6 p.m. AT.

T.J Fast opened the scoring Saturday with a blast from the top of the left circle at 5:45 of the first period, but Stockton responded six minutes later with a power play goal credited to Jason Pitton, who banked a centering pass off the skate of Aces defenseman Nils Backstrom.  Fellow blue-liner Lee Green set up Jason Ryznar for the go-ahead goal with 3:37 left in the frame.  Konkle and Miller scored in the first seven minutes of the second period to break a 1-for-20 power play spell over Alaska's last four games, and the Aces never looked back, out-shooting the visitors 13-4 over the last 20 minutes and 38-23 for the game, allowing Billy Sauer to collect his fourth win in five starts with 22 saves.

The vicotry marked Alaska's first in regulation against Stockton since February 17, 2008, convering a stretch of 16 games.  The Aces, who went 5-5 against the Thunder this season (including three shootout wins and one OT triumph), will be facing Stockton for the first time ever in the playoffs.
