ALASKA SEES 2-0 LEAD EVAPORATE IN ONTARIO

Jan 30th, 2010

ONTARIO, Calif. - Matt Stefanishion and T.J. Fast scored 52 seconds apart to stake Alaska to an early 2-0 lead, but Ontario scored five unanswered goals to gain a weekend split with a 5-2 decision over the Aces in front of 8,298 Saturday at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

Alaska slips back to the .500 mark (20-20-4) heading into tomorrow's afternoon clash with Stockton at 3:00 p.m., broadcast live on KFQD 750 AM.  The Aces and Thunder split a two-game set last weekend in California.

Alaska's two goals against the Reign Saturday came six minutes into the contest, but the two-goal lead was erased in a span of 16 seconds by Michael Pelech, who scored on a pair of rebounds with three minutes left in the frame, the second goal coming on the power play.  The score remained tied 2-2 through a scoreless second period in which the Aces out-shot the hosts, 10-2.

The game-winning goal came when Ontario captain Jon Francisco set up Sean O'Connor for a one-timer from between the circles at 2:13.  Alaska enjoyed seven minutes of power play time in the third period with a chance for the equalizer, but squeezed off just five shots on goal in the final frame.  Shawn Germain and Tim Kraus sealed the victory for the Reign with empty-netters in the game's final minute.  Aces goalie Frank Doyle lost for just the second time in 11 Alaska starts despite stopping 20 of 23 shots.
