Curt Gogol’s 12th goal in 18 games shattered a 1-1 tie with 1:25 left in regulation and elevated the Alaska Aces to a stunning 3-1 victory over the Colorado Eagles before 5,289 fans at Budweiser Events Center on Friday.

The Aces, moving within three points of a playoff spot and fourth place in the Pacific Division (Utah was idle on Friday), snapped Colorado’s 8-0-2 streak at home and improved to 2-0-0 on a five-game road trip. They scored all three goals in the third period, entering it tied, 0-0 and Troy Redmann stopped 27 shots.

WALTERS COMING BACK

The Alaska Aces, three time Kelly Cup champions, have been assigned left wing Ryan Walters from the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League.

Walters is joining the Aces on a five-game road trip, who return to play tomorrow at Colorado, starting at 5:05 p.m. (KFQD/ECHL.TV).

Walters, 23, has 23 points (10g-13a) and four penalty minutes in 26 games with the Aces while leading ECHL rookies with three shorthanded goals. He also carries eight points (1g-7a) and six penalty minutes in 20 games with Iowa this season.

The Alaska Aces, three time Kelly Cup champions, have signed rookie free agent forward Michael Markovic and have been assigned goaltender Niklas Lundstrom from the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.

Igor Bobkov earned a 30 save shutout to lift the Utah Grizzlies over the Alaska Aces, 4-0 in a three-game series finale before 3,583 fans at Sullivan Arena on Sunday.

With 21 games left in the regular season, the Aces ended the week five points out of fourth place (held by Utah) in the Pacific Division, shut out for the first time since Oct. 18 against Ontario. Michael Pelech’s first period goal stood as the game winner.
