The Alaska Aces continue their ten-game road trip tonight against the Bakersfield Condors, the final regular season meeting between the two teams in ECHL play (Bakersfield is transitioning to the American Hockey League next season).The Aces are 6-4-2 in the last 12 road games and currently 1-2-0 on the road trip. Bakersfield defeated the Aces, 5-4 in a shootout in the last matchup on Mar. 2 at Rabobank Arena. The Aces enter the evening five points behind fourth place Utah for the final playoff spot.

CONN-DO ATTITUDE

Brendan Connolly broke a 1-1 tie with 6:20 left in regulation, his career high 26th goal of the season, and Troy Redmann made 25 saves to boost the Alaska Aces to a 3-1 victory before an announced crowd of 9,395 at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Saturday.

The Aces, salvaging a victory in the three game series, were aided with a first period goal from Greg Wolfe and Ryan Walters’ empty netter with 10.3 seconds left. The victory allowed the Aces to keep pace at five points behind fourth place Utah, who defeated Bakersfield.

The Aces are 2-1\2-1 in three games at Ontario this season and last faced the Reign on Friday, 5-3 Ontario. The Aces are 5-4-2 in the last 11 road games. The matchup features two players, Brendan Connolly (Alaska) and David Rutherford (Ontario) who led nominees for the ECHL Player of the Week award. Maxim Kitsyn scored two more goals and added an assist, helping the Ontario Reign defeat the Alaska Aces, 5-3 before a crowd of 8,540 at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Friday.

Alaska nearly rallied from a 4-1 deficit while posting a pair of power play goals, but Ontario’s stretch of four goals in a span of 6:02, spanning the first and second period was enough to hold off the Aces. Corey Syvret and Ryan Walters each had the power play goals while Dean Chelios earned his second goal in glacier blue, pulling the Aces to within a goal late in the second period.

Maxim Kitsyn and Matt White each collected a goal and an assist, enough for the Ontario Reign to hold off the Alaska Aces, 3-1 in a ten-game road trip opener before 6,186 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Wednesday.

Alaska’s trip, spanning every Pacific Division opponent except for Colorado, opened with a first period goal from Brendan Connolly, while Niklas Lundstrom had 22 saves in the defeat, making his third consecutive start.

Brendan Connolly earned a hat trick, added an assist, was +5 and the Alaska Aces led wire-to-wire, crushing the Colorado Eagles in a 6-2 victory before 5,261 fans at Sullivan Arena on Saturday.

Connolly’s performance was the Aces’ second hat trick of the season, his first in Aces colors, and the fourth of his career (first since a four-goal game vs. Orlando in 2012-13). His linemates, Chris Francis and Dean Chelios, combined for eight points and +15 en route to a 2-0-1 series against the Eagles.
