PREVIEW: Aces-Ontario

The Alaska Aces open a road trip spanning ten games and 19 days (their longest of the season) tonight against the Ontario Reign at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The Aces are 2-0-1 in three games at Ontario this season and last faced the Reign on March 3, a 3-0 Aces victory in Ontario. The Aces are 5-2-2 in the last nine road games. The matchup features two players, Brendan Connolly (Alaska) and David Rutherford (Ontario) who led nominees for the ECHL Player of the Week award. Rutherford earned the award on Tuesday and Connolly finished as a runner-up.

HATS OFF

Brendan Connolly earned a hat trick, added an assist, was +5 and the Alaska Aces led wire-to-wire, crushing the Colorado Eagles in a 6-2 victory before 5,261 fans at Sullivan Arena on Saturday.

Connolly’s performance was the Aces’ second hat trick of the season, his first in Aces colors, and the fourth of his career (first since a four-goal game vs. Orlando in 2012-13). His linemates, Chris Francis and Dean Chelios, combined for eight points and +15 en route to a 2-0-1 series against the Eagles.

ACES RE-SIGN WARNER

The Alaska Aces announced today that the team has signed free agent defenseman Scott Warner.   Warner, 26, is expected to suit up for the Aces tonight in a 7:15 p.m. game (GCI/KFQD) against the Colorado Eagles at Sullivan Arena. The Alaska Aces conclude a three game homestand tonight against the Colorado Eagles at Sullivan Arena, wearing specialty green themed “St. Patrick’s Day” jerseys. The Aces are 5-4-2, head-to-head against Colorado this season and 25-12-3 in the all-time series, spanning back to 2011-12. The two teams last met at Sullivan Arena, last night and the Aces defeated Colorado, 2-1. Alaska is 3-1-1 against Colorado at Sullivan Arena this season. The Aces enter Wednesday five points out of a playoff spot (fourth in the Pacific Division).

Niklas Lundstrom delivered a 39 save effort and Brendan Connolly’s team leading 21st goal stood as the game winner, lifting the Alaska Aces to a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Eagles before a crowd of 5,856 at Sullivan Arena on Friday.

The Aces, keeping pace at five points behind Utah for fourth place, were also boosted by newcomer Landon Oslanski’s first goal with his new club, breaking a scoreless tie in the second period. The penalty kill extinguished all seven chances, including five-on-three lasting two minutes, and a five-minute major in the third period.

ACES GET OSLANSKI FOR CURRIER

The Alaska Aces, three time Kelly Cup champions, and head coach Rob Murray announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Landon Oslanski from the Missouri Mavericks in exchange for forward Tyler Currier. In addition, defenseman Colten Hayes has been recalled by the Chicago Wolves (AHL) and reassigned to Missouri.

Oslanski, 22, is expected to be available to play tomorrow, when the Aces host the Colorado Eagles at Sullivan Arena, and wear jersey #44.

ROUND, AND ROUND

 Troy Redmann made 34 saves and Nathan Moon ended the longest shootout in Alaska Aces history with a goal in the 17th round, lifting the Colorado Eagles over the Aces, 4-3 before 3,690 fans at Sullivan Arena on Wednesday.

The game finished four rounds shy of the ECHL record, extending past regulation after Brock Nixon led Colorado with back to back goals to rally from a 3-1 deficit with less than three minutes to play. Curt Gogol led the Aces with a pair of goals while Greg Wolfe furnished an assist in his return from the American Hockey League.
